On March, 22 was held meeting of public council of NAER. In terms of meeting were discussed topical questions of organization and implementation of state energy efficiency policy. Particularly, on consideration were submitted draft state target program of biofulels production and also draft program of wind power plants development.

Educational complex "Arnika" in Lviv will use solar cells for heating school swimming pool. It is the first public facility which uses alternative energy sources in Ukraine. According to professor of material science Department of Lviv Polytechnical University Zenoviy Kogut these solar panels were installed last year in terms of joint project of University and Polish partners. They make it possible to heat water for kitchen and for swimming pool.

Ukraine and Austria will collaborate in energy efficiency. On February, 17 was held official signing of Memorandum of understanding in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energies between NAER and Austrian Energy Agency (AEA). From Ukrainian side Memorandum was signed by Head of NAER, Mr. Sergiy Yermilov, from the side of AEA – by deputy Manager of AEA Herbert Lehner.

In Kyiv was held final seminar of Ukranian-Korean "Knowledge sharing program” Main topic of seminar regarded implementation of energy efficient strategies in coal mining, wind energy and biofuel sectors of Ukraine. Korean scientists summarized the analysis of perspectives of energy efficiency development and problems in energetic sector of Ukraine. Mentioned research was aimed at estimating potentially attractive sectors of Ukrainian energy sector for further cooperation with Korean investors.

According to report, published by Peter Thomson, head of World Bank’s Department of sustainable development of Eastern Europe and former USSR countries, countries of Europe and Central Asia are standing on the threshold of energetic crisis. "It is expected that by 2030 the demand for primary energy resources in Europe and Central Asia will increase on 50% and electric energy consumption, according to prognosis, will increase on 90%", said Mr. Thomson.

NASA engineers launched a new experiment, aimed at "space biofuel" production. Astronauts started to grow seeds of rare sort of jatropha – a small brushwood, which contain sap that can be used for biofuel manufacturing in space conditions.

Seeds of this culture with mineral fertilizers and vitamins were brought to a space station during the last space flight of “Discovery”. Plants are growing at space station since the end of February. In the end of April seeds will be brought back to Earth and engineers will attempt to make a qualitative biofuel.

This year Geneva automobile show exhibited not only ordinary cars of premium class, but a row of models, equipped with alternative engines. Every year Mercedes, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Peugeot and many other manufacturers demonstrate at automobile show in Geneva their new products. This year on the exhibition showroom were presented cars with electric engines, particularly Audi A1.

On March, 1, Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has adopted State target economic program on energy efficiency for 2010-2015. This document will determine national strategy for nearest five years. Program is a large document which prescribes a number of measures which are planned to be implemented in energy efficiency sector. National program is aimed at reducing energy intensity of national GDP for 20%. The program also foresees an optimization of fuel and energy balance of Ukraine by decreasing quota of imported energy resources and growth of alternative energetics.

From November, 9 to November, 12 will be held specialized exhibition "Energy efficiency-2010". Exibition is managed by National agency of Ukraine on ensuring of efficient energy resources management and International exhibition center Ltd.

The decision was adopted on February, 26 at council session. It’s planned to designate more than 5 bln hrn for program realization. These costs are mainly obtained from local budgets and private investors. The main target of program – is to achieve maximum effectiveness of energy resources utilization at city institutions and enterprises and to improve energy saving management system.
