European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is ready to put 15 mln. euro to public utility company “Zhytomyr heating municipal energy company” for energy saving technologies and reconstruction of heating communications in Zhytomyr. EBRD plans to give a credit for 7% per annum with 3-year delay of payment and 5 mln. euro of grant costs from European governments. Date of transaction will be announced later.

Head of NAER, Sergiy Yermilov took participation at official opening of conference entitled “Alternative energetics in agricultural sector” with complimentary address. He noted that energy efficiency issue is one of the main tendencies of public policy in Ukraine. In confirmation of this thesis Mr. Yermilov claimed that Ukrainian Government have passed more than 50 legal and normative acts over a period of last two years that are aimed to support and develop energy efficiency sector.

Lviv regional council held an operational meeting concerning the process of implementation of a far-reaching project entitled “Energy of Carpathians”. This project is aimed at estimating the potential of renewable energy resources in the Carpathians: water, wind and solar energy in order to utilize them for heating of the public objects (schools, mini-hospitals) that are situated in the local villages.

On January, 28 meeting of jury members of the contest “Children for Clean Energy” was held. Having considered all pictures and verses that had been sent for the contest, the jury determined winners at all nominations of contest in two age categories: 6-11 and 12-16 years.

Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved regulations concerning consumer electronics energy labeling. This document asserts all requirements for proper informational support of consumers including informing about energy efficiency of certain types of electronics. Regulations concern technics with high power consumption, such as refrigerators, laundry washers, water heaters, electric ovens, air conditioners and lighting units. From now, these devices should be sold with energy labels that contain general description of device, test certificate and information about power consumption.

Despite a crippling recession and tight credit markets, the American wind power industry grew at a blistering pace in 2009, adding 39 percent more capacity. The country is close to the point where 2 percent of its electricity will come from wind turbines. While that is still a small share, it is up from virtually nothing a few years ago. Continued growth at such a fast pace could help the nation lower its emissions of the gases that cause global warming.
