Lviv regional council to make efforts at the new project “Energy of the Carpathians”
Lviv regional council held an operational meeting concerning the process of implementation of a far-reaching project entitled “Energy of Carpathians”. This project is aimed at estimating the potential of renewable energy resources in the Carpathians: water, wind and solar energy in order to utilize them for heating of the public objects (schools, mini-hospitals) that are situated in the local villages.
Implementation of this project will make it possible to develop an energetic map, which will represent the renewable energy potential of the Carpathians and furthermore as well as to prepare investment offers concerning the development of wind farms and hydroelectric power plants. These efforts will not only contribute to the economical enhancements, but also reduce the volume of emissions of gases that cause global warming.
The project also envisages the development of regional energy efficiency promotion program for mountain areas of Lviv region. This program will allow to cut budget expenditures for energy supplying of institutions that provide services to the residents of mountain communities.
Additionaly, the project “Energy of the Carpathians” sets forth implementation of the local pilot project of installation of the solar water heat collector at one of the public facilities: school, hospital, etc.
The project is endorsed by the Association of local government authorities of “Euroregion Carpathians-Ukraine”. The project is supported by the “Eastern Europe” fund sponsored by the “Eurasia” fund, USAID, “Telenor” company, Embassy of Finland in Ukraine, Lviv regional council, the Association of local government authorities of “Euroregion Carpathians-Ukraine” and by one of the district councils that will win the contest for implementation of the local pilot project.
